Hello and welcome to 30 Days to Santiago.com - a website dedicated to the Camino de Santiago!
My name is Chris Sanders and I live in Atlanta, GA. A few years ago, I hiked 500 miles of the Camino de Santiago - from St. Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela. The journey lasted 30 consecutive days – hence the name of this website.
The Camino de Santiago is a medieval pilgrimage to the Cathedral in the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela. The site is believed to be the final resting place of St. James the Apostle – one of the twelve Disciples of Christ. Though once a local and strictly Christian pilgrimage, the Camino today is an international phenomenon and attracts thousands of people from all around the world and from all beliefs. Indeed, its status as a UNESCO World Heritage site draws many to experience the Camino's rich cultural and architectural aspects.
My own experience on the Camino de Santiago inspired me to create this website, which I hope will provide a useful starting point to those who wish to learn more about this incredible journey. Within these pages, I’ve included lots of practical information, advice and suggestions based on my own experience. In addition, you’ll get a glimpse of the practicalities of daily Camino life by reading excerpts from my journal on the Travelogue page. Finally, for those wanting more, I’ve included links to additional sources of information – including organizations, books, and other websites.
Buen Camino!
Chris
